Austin Oyster Race 10/11/2009

I had the pleasure of photographing the annual Austin Oyster Ultimate Urban Race this year on October 11, 2009.  It was a lot of fun to witness and I hope I get the opportunity to photograph the race next year as well.

The day of the race was very cloudy and rained nearly all day.  I had a rainsleeve for my camera, but I didn't have one for my flash.  This meant that I had to use a fairly high ISO throughout the day in order to maintain a shutter speed of at least 1/200th of a second.  So, with ISO's of 640 up to 3200, there is going to be obvious noise.  There isn't a whole lot I can do about that.  For the one indoor event, the ceiling was painted black, so bouncing the flash off the ceiling just wouldn't work.  Not exactly a photographer's dream day for conditions!

Nevertheless, I enjoyed it thoroghly.  I am new to sports photography, so if you have any tips for me that I can use in future events, please by all means let me know!

While this site is focused on Texas nature and landscapes, I decided to go ahead and post them here for two reasons ... (1) My other site is in the rebuilding process, and (2) what the heck, this took place in Texas too!
